Container delivery in India: delivered price estimate
A container's delivered price adds four things: the box, the trucking, the unloading and GST. Pick a container, the port it leaves from and your city: the calculator adds the box's “price from”, as on its page, to an estimate of the trucking. Two routes from Mundra have published door-delivery rates; other long routes are estimated from them, local trips are quoted by the seller, and the unloading and GST come on top.
Delivered price estimate
—
The container figure is its "Price from", the same as on its page (or the labelled estimate when no seller published a price); a quote for a given box can be higher. Trucking: a published door-delivery rate when one exists for the lane, otherwise road distance × ₹74–₹93 per km, the band of the 5 published 40 ft rates (20 ft: × 0.61–0.87, the 20/40 ratio of the 2026 trucking tariff of a shipping line between ports and inland depots, July to September, middle half of its routes). Below 439 km there is no public door-delivery rate: local delivery is quoted by the seller, and the transport cost page gives 2026 port-to-depot rates for shorter routes. Crane or side-lifter unloading is extra. Most listings do not say whether GST (18%) is included.

How much does it cost to deliver a container?
Asia Containers does not sell or deliver containers: a quote request goes to partner sellers who cover your PIN code, and they reply with a delivered price, trucking included. To read their quotes, count four parts:
- The box: its price where it stands, in the seller’s yard: the “price from” of each product page, as listed, without GST added.
- The trucking: on long routes from Mundra, a shipping line’s published door-delivery rates come to about ₹74 to ₹93 per km for a 40 ft box; shorter trips cost more per km, and a 20 ft box costs about three-quarters of a 40 ft one. Container transport cost gives the rates and where they come from.
- The unloading: by crane, by forklift for a 20 ft box only, or by side-lifter or tilt trailer where one works near you. CPWD’s Delhi schedule of rates 2023 prices a mobile crane at ₹5,050 for an 8-hour day with its operator and fuel, before GST, the hirer’s margin and the trip to your site. Container foundation and unloading compares the four ways.
- GST: 18% on the box. When the seller delivers it on the same invoice, the delivery is usually taxed with the box; a goods transport agency booked separately charges 5% without input tax credit, which a registered business usually pays itself under reverse charge, or 18% with it (GST on shipping containers).
How much is a 40 ft shipping container delivered?
As an estimate: a used 40 ft high cube priced from ₹1,58,000, plus 18% GST on the box, plus the published door-delivery rates from Mundra to Delhi NCR, which do not say whether GST is included, comes to ₹2.7 to ₹2.9 lakh, before the crane and the foundation. A used standard 40 ft, priced from ₹1,55,000, comes to about the same. The calculator above shows the same route before GST.
And a 20 ft container?
A used 20 ft box is priced from ₹1,04,000. Trucked from Nhava Sheva to Hyderabad, 694 km by road, it would add an estimated ₹31,500 to ₹56,500, before GST, unloading and the foundation. For a shorter trip, a shipping line’s 2026 tariff charged ₹23,532 to truck a 20 ft box from Nhava Sheva to an inland depot at Pune, about 136 km: port to depot, not to a door, but a fair yardstick. From a dealer in your own city, ask the seller to quote the delivery with the box.
Container delivery near you: where the boxes come from
Buying near your site saves most of the trucking. Used containers in India are sold from depots and yards near the ports and in the big inland markets: Navi Mumbai and Thane near Nhava Sheva, Mundra and Gandhidham in Kutch, Chennai, Kolkata, Kochi, and dealers around Delhi NCR, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad and Bengaluru. In our reading of 20 October 2026, the typical (median) asking price of a used 20 ft box was lowest in Mumbai region and Chennai (₹1,07,500) and highest in Hyderabad (₹1,40,000): compare delivered prices, not yard prices. The used containers for sale page gives the asking prices by area, and container yard explains how to buy a box from a yard.
How much do several shipping containers cost delivered?
Multiply the box’s price by the number of boxes, then ask for the trucking per trip: a 40 ft trailer can carry one 40 ft box or two 20 ft boxes, so two 20 ft boxes may travel together, and a crane can unload several boxes in one visit. We found no published discount for buying several boxes: ask for one in the quote. Each line of a quote request takes a quantity, up to 50 boxes, and a request can have up to five lines.
Shipping container delivery, step by step
- The quote. Ask for the delivered price to your PIN code, with the unloading as a separate line and the GST shown. The quote form has a field for the unloading you need.
- The box. Get the container number and recent photos or a video call of that very box: how to inspect a used container lists what to look at.
- The payment. Pay a registered business against a tax invoice, to an account in its own name, and keep part of the price until the box is delivered: how to check a container supplier.
- The papers for the road. Goods worth more than ₹50,000 usually travel with an e-way bill (the limit is higher within some states, such as ₹1 lakh in Maharashtra and Delhi); the rules exempt empty cargo containers, and we found no ruling on a box sold to its buyer, so ask the seller whether one goes with the truck (GST on shipping containers).
- The date. Agree the day and the time, who will be on site, and what happens if the truck cannot get in; ask the transporter about the hours when heavy vehicles may enter your city.
- On the day. Check that the number on the door matches the invoice, walk round the box, open the doors and look inside before it is unloaded if you can; note any damage on the delivery note before you sign it, then pay the balance.
Before the truck comes
A vehicle carrying an ISO container may stand 4.52 m tall and, with its tractor, 18.75 m long and 2.6 m wide: walk the route for cables, branches, gates and soft ground. Build the supports under the four corners before the delivery: a container must rest on its corner castings, level, above the ground and above any flood water. Container foundation and unloading gives the details, and twist locks and corner castings where the corners fall.
