A new or one-trip 20 ft reefer is a refrigerated container (ISO 22R1) whose box and refrigeration unit have done at most one voyage: only that voyage's hours on the unit, no repaired panels, and usually the unit maker's warranty still running. It gives 28.2 m³ inside, or 10 Euro pallets on its floor, and holds set points down to −25, −30 or −40 °C and up to +25 or +30 °C, depending on the unit. Few sellers in India publish a price for one; partner sellers who cover your PIN code quote it delivered.

Why buy a new 20 ft reefer container

A used reefer is a box with a history: its unit has run for years at sea and in yards, and the price of a used one depends on how well that went. A new one starts almost at zero. That matters most where a breakdown costs more than the box:

  • Medicines and vaccines, where a lost load and a broken temperature record cost more than the price difference.
  • A cold store far from a reefer mechanic, on a farm or at a remote packhouse, where a new unit’s warranty counts for more.
  • A long-term store, kept for many years, where a used box would need its unit overhauled or replaced sooner.

For a season, a reefer on rent may cost less. For a store on a modest budget, a used 20 ft reefer, from ₹6,50,000, does the same job once its unit has passed a running test; for more volume, the new 40 ft high cube reefer holds 67.5 m³.

On 20 October 2026, 1 seller on TradeIndia was asking about ₹18,50,000 (an approximate price) for a new 20 ft reefer. That is one asking price, too few for a firm one, and the listing does not say whether the box is an ISO reefer with a CSC plate: ask before you compare. Many “new refrigerated containers” listed for much less are storage-only builds, truck bodies or used boxes with a new unit, so ask which one a quote is for.

New reefer container for sale: ISO box or locally built cold store?

Listings for a “new reefer container” in India mix two different products. An ISO reefer is built to the shipping standards: steel frame and corner castings, a CSC safety-approval plate, a refrigeration unit from a container-unit maker (Carrier, Daikin, Star Cool or Thermo King build most of them), and it can go to sea. Indian manufacturers also build refrigerated containers for storage only, with GRP, PUF or stainless steel panels and units of various makes; some are good cold rooms, but they are not shipping containers and carry no CSC plate.

This page is for the ISO box. To be sure that is what a quote offers, ask for:

  1. the box’s maker and its date of manufacture, which the CSC plate shows;
  2. the unit’s make, model and year, and the written warranty that comes with it: how long, what it covers and who honours it in India;
  3. for a one-trip box, what its trip carried, and a wash before delivery;
  4. a test at your set point on delivery, with the unit’s printout or log;
  5. the invoice in your name with the container number, and the bill of entry if the box was imported.

On the shipping lines' reefer data sheets the inside height is lower than the door opening, and the volume a little more than length × width × height: these are their figures, as published. New 20ft reefer container: price, warranty and power

What is the price of a new 20 ft reefer container in India?

1 seller on TradeIndia asked about ₹18,50,000 on 20 October 2026, against a price from ₹6,50,000 for a used one on this site. One price says little: the make of the unit and the maker of the box move it most. Delivery, unloading and GST (18%, HSN 8609) come on top: see GST on shipping containers.

Can a new reefer store medicines at +2 to +8 °C?

The unit holds the set point you enter on its controller, within its range. What a pharmacy also needs is the record: ask the seller how the controller logs temperatures and how you take the log out (a printout or a file), whether it can raise an alarm or be watched remotely, and quote a generator set or an automatic change-over if your grid fails. If your licence asks for a temperature mapping of the store, have it done on site after delivery.

Is a new reefer worth it over a used one?

When a failed unit would cost you a load, a licence or a season, often yes; for storage where a few hours above temperature would not matter, a used reefer with a recent PTI report and a running test is the cheaper way. Ask partner sellers for both in the same request, and compare the quotes with the warranty each one gives.

Does a new reefer need a three-phase supply?

Container units usually take 380–460 V three-phase, new or used. Ask the seller for the unit’s voltage, its power use in kW at your temperature and its plug, and have an electrician check your supply before it arrives; where the grid fails, a generator set made for reefers can be quoted with the box.

How heavy is a new 20 ft reefer, and how is it delivered?

About 2,920 kg empty on the data sheets, 2,591 mm tall, on a 20 ft trailer. Say in your request whether a crane or a side-lifter will set it down, with the unit end towards your power point; the delivered price estimate gives an order of magnitude for the trip.
