The new 40 ft high cube reefer (ISO 45R1) is the cold-chain box straight from the factory, or after a single voyage: 67.5 m³ inside, 23 Euro pallets on its floor, and a refrigeration unit with at most one voyage's hours on it, usually under its maker's warranty. It holds set points down to −25, −30 or −40 °C and up to +25 or +30 °C, depending on the unit, on a three-phase supply or a generator set. Partner sellers who cover your PIN code quote it delivered.

What a new 40 ft high cube reefer is for

Pharmaceutical distributors, exporters who own their boxes, food processors and cold-chain operators buy new 40 ft reefers where the unit must not fail and the box will work for many years. Bought new, the box has straight panels and sound insulation, and its unit carries a warranty; bought used, the same size costs a fraction but comes with years of running hours on its unit. For medicines, ask too how the controller’s temperature log is read out, and whether the unit can raise an alarm or be watched remotely.

On 20 October 2026, 1 seller on IndiaMART listed a new 40 ft reefer, at ₹23,00,000: one asking price, too few for a firm one. The listing says neither whether the box is a high cube nor whether it carries a CSC plate: ask both before you compare. Many “new refrigerated containers” listed for much less are storage-only builds, truck bodies or used boxes with a new unit; the questions below sort them out.

Buying a new reefer: what to ask the seller

“New” can mean a box that left the factory empty, a one-trip box that carried one load to India, or a refrigerated container built locally for storage. Ask:

  • Is it an ISO reefer? The CSC plate with its date of manufacture, and the size-type code 45R1 by the container number; a box built only for storage has neither, and cannot be shipped.
  • Which unit, with which warranty? Who made the unit and which model it is (most container units come from Carrier, Daikin, Star Cool or Thermo King), the year it was built, and the warranty in writing: its length, what it covers, and who carries it out in India.
  • What did the one trip carry? A one-trip box may have carried fish, fruit or chemicals: ask, and ask for it to be washed before delivery.
  • What will you see on delivery? A test at your set point, with the controller’s log, before you sign for it.
  • Which papers? The invoice in your name with the container number and the GST treatment, and the bill of entry if the box was imported.

Quotes only compare when they cover the same thing: the same make of unit, and the box delivered, set down and run on test.

The markings on the doors give the tare and maximum gross weight of each box, the maximum gross also being on its CSC plate: a box rated higher carries more, its maximum gross weight minus its tare. On the shipping lines' reefer data sheets the inside height is lower than the door opening, and the volume a little more than length × width × height: these are their figures, as published. New reefer container price, weight and delivery

How much does a 40-foot refrigerated container cost?

Brand new, 1 seller on IndiaMART asked ₹23,00,000 on 20 October 2026; used, prices on this site start from ₹5,50,000. Add delivery, the unloading and GST (18%): see GST on shipping containers.

How heavy is a new 40 ft high cube reefer, and how is it delivered?

The data sheets put it at about 4,505 kg empty. With 2,896 mm (9′ 6″) of box above the trailer deck, check the route in for low gates and overhead cables; tell the seller whether a crane or a side-lifter will set it down. For the trailer from a port, the delivered price estimate gives an order of magnitude.

What power does a new 40 ft reefer need?

A new unit usually runs on a three-phase supply of 380 to 460 V. Get its power draw in kW at the temperature you will set, and the type of plug, from the seller; an electrician should then check your supply and the cable run. Where the grid fails, get a generator set quoted with the box.

New or used 40 ft reefer for a cold store?

New if the store must run for many years, far from a reefer mechanic, or for medicines; used if the budget decides and you can test the unit before paying. Ask for both in one request: the quotes, with their warranties, will show the real gap.
