The used 20 ft high cube is a 20 ft ISO box (25G1) built 305 mm taller: 2,698 mm (8′ 10″) of height inside instead of 2,393 mm, on the same 13.9 m² (149 sq ft) of floor, with doors 2,340 × 2,585 mm. Few sellers stock one: ask our partner sellers for a cargo-worthy or a wind and water tight box, with delivery to your PIN code in the price.

What the extra height is for

The extra 305 mm count when people work or live inside, as in a site office, a small office or a room: a ceiling and insulation take height from any box, and a high cube keeps more headroom once they are fitted. Which grade to ask for depends on the use:

  • People inside (office, shop, room): cargo-worthy, so the floor is sound, with the plate of the International Convention for Safe Containers (CSC) still on the door; ready-made container offices are also sold fitted out.
  • Storage on the ground: wind and water tight is enough, and a used standard 20 ft does the same job with the same floor: it is far easier to find.
  • Tall loads: what counts is the door, 2,585 mm (8′ 6″) high, 305 mm more than on a standard box.

In our check of 20 October 2026, only 6 sellers on IndiaMART listed a used 20 ft high cube, against 116 for the standard box. Their asking prices are far apart, and the typical price (₹1,19,500) came out about the same as a standard box’s (₹1,20,000): on so few sellers it is an order of magnitude, so compare the quotes you receive.

Cargo-worthy

Sound walls, roof and floor, doors that seal: it can still go to sea.

  • Structurally sound: no holes, frame and corner posts straight.
  • Doors, locking bars and seals working; floor sound.
  • Normally a CSC plate with a valid examination date, so it can still be shipped or stacked.
  • Paint faded in places, dents and scuffs, patches of surface rust.

Check before you pay: the CSC plate and its last examination date, the floor near the doors, and the light test inside with the doors closed.

Wind and water tight

Keeps wind and rain out, but would not pass a shipping survey.

  • No holes: the box keeps wind and rain out.
  • Visible dents, surface rust at the foot of the walls and around the door frame.
  • The floor may be worn or patched, the frame may carry repairs, the CSC approval may have lapsed.
  • Right for storage on the ground, not for shipping goods by sea.

Check before you pay: the roof from above for dents that hold rain, the floor from inside, and the light test with the doors closed.

What fits in a 20 ft high cube

The floor is the same as a standard 20 ft box’s to within 2 mm: 5,898 × 2,352 mm (19′ 4″ × 7′ 8½″), so the pallet count does not change either: in one layer, in two lanes along the box, 11 Euro pallets of 1,200 × 800 mm or 9 of 1,200 × 1,000 mm, by our count from the inside size (not a loading plan). The gain is above them: taller stacks, or racking that needs the extra 305 mm. The volume rises to 37.4 m³ (1,321 cu ft), against 33.2 m³. These sizes come from one manufacturer’s data sheet: ask for the CSC plate of the box you are offered.

Delivering a 20 ft high cube: the extra height

On its trailer the box stands 305 mm higher than a standard 20 ft: 2,896 mm (9′ 6″) plus the height of the trailer deck. Check gates, cables and branches on the way in. Empty, it weighs about 2,230 kg. Say in your request how it will come off the truck (the truck’s own crane, a side-lifter, or a crane you hire) and which of them your site allows, so that the price you are quoted covers it.

The ground it sits on should be level and firm over the whole 6,058 × 2,438 mm footprint (19′ 10½″ × 8′), with a block or pad under every corner casting and about 1.2 m (4 ft) free at the door end, where each leaf swings out to half the box’s width. More on the ground and the access in site preparation and unloading; for a box coming from a distant port or depot, the delivered price estimate gives an order of magnitude (the seller quotes short trips). GST is 18% under HSN 8609, as on a standard box: ask whether the quote includes it (GST on shipping containers).

Used 20 ft high cube: common questions

What is the internal height of a 20 ft high cube container?

2,698 mm (8′ 10″) on the data sheet, against 2,393 mm in a standard 20 ft box. Lining takes part of it: as an example, with 100 mm taken in all by the floor and the ceiling, a high cube keeps about 2,600 mm inside, against about 2,290 mm in a standard 20 ft box.

What is the difference between a 20 ft and a 20 ft high cube container?

The height: 2,896 mm outside against 2,591 mm, and 2,698 mm inside against 2,393 mm, on the same floor. The ISO code painted on the doors tells them apart: 25G1 for a 20 ft high cube, 22G1 for a standard 20 ft.

Is there a 20 ft high cube container?

Yes: the 20 ft high cube (ISO 25G1) is 305 mm taller than a standard 20 ft box, on the same floor. It is rare in India: in our check of 20 October 2026, 6 sellers on IndiaMART listed a used one, against 116 for the standard box.
