The 20 ft container sold as-is is a used ISO 22G1 steel box with its damage declared, what listings in India also call a damaged, old or scrap container: holes or patched panels, deep rust, a weak floor or doors that do not seal. It keeps the 13.9 m² (149 sq ft) of floor of any 20 ft box and is sold without promise. Partner sellers who have one quote a price, delivered to your PIN code or where the box stands.

Free and without obligation: you choose the seller and pay them directly. How it works

When a damaged box is the right buy

It is the cheapest kind of 20 ft box: sellers ask a median of ₹75,000 for one, against ₹1,20,000 for a used box (20 October 2026). That rests on only 3 sellers, so read it as an order of magnitude. And 20 of the 116 sellers of used boxes ask ₹95,000 or less: the gap with a sound box can be small once the truck and the repairs are counted. A damaged box suits the uses where it does not have to stay dry:

  • A store for rough materials on a site, such as scaffolding or bricks.
  • A shelter, a wall or a frame that you will clad and roof yourself.

For goods or people that must stay dry, a used box keeps the rain out.

As-is

Sold with its damage declared and without promise.

  • Damage declared by the seller: holes, deep rust, a weak floor or doors that do not seal.
  • Sold without promise, sometimes only where it stands.
  • For a shed, a shelter, a wall or a frame to be clad, not for dry storage of goods.

Check before you pay: the box itself, on site: what holds, what leaks, and how it will be lifted onto the truck.

A grade is the seller's word, not a certificate. Container grades explained · How to inspect a used container

Check it on site

Go and see the box, in daylight. Step inside and close the doors: every point of light is a hole. Walk the floor, especially near the doors. Look at the four corner castings and the bottom rails: they carry the whole box when it is lifted, and cracks or heavy rust there can make lifting unsafe.

Ask whether the price is “as-is, where-is”: the seller then sells the box where it stands, and collecting it is your job, with the truck and the crane at your cost. The delivered price estimate gives an order of magnitude for the truck: ₹23,500 to ₹42,000 for a 20 ft box over about 516 km, an estimate, not a quote. Otherwise, ask for a delivered price to your PIN code.

GST at 18% may come on top of the price: of the as-is listings with an exact price, 1 says it is included. Ask before you compare.

Questions about scrap 20 ft containers

Is a scrap container the same as an as-is container?

In listings in India, a “scrap container” usually means an old or damaged box sold cheaply as a box, which is what this page covers. A box sold for its steel is another trade, priced on its weight (about 2,230 kg empty): we do not track scrap steel prices, so ask the dealer how the price is set.

Can a damaged container be repaired?

Panels can be patched, a floor replaced and doors reset, but each repair is a cost: have it quoted before you buy, and compare the total with a used box with no grade stated, asked at ₹1,20,000 (79 sellers).

What does an old or as-is 20 ft container cost?

Sellers on IndiaMART ask ₹65,000 to ₹1,10,000 (3 sellers, 20 October 2026); the lowest price we saw is ₹59,000, on one public listing. Delivery and lifting come on top.
