The one-trip 20 ft container is a steel ISO 22G1 box built new and used once: it made a single voyage with cargo, usually from the factory in China to India, and was then emptied; few are built in India (who makes shipping containers in India). Straight panels, even factory paint, a clean floor and soft door seals, on the same 13.9 m² (149 sq ft) of floor and 33.2 m³ as any standard 20 ft box. Partner sellers quote it in the colours of their stock, delivered to your PIN code.

Asking prices differ widely: for a used 20 feet shipping container, half of the 116 sellers we read on 20 October 2026 ask between ₹1,04,000 and ₹1,40,000, ₹36,000 apart. Several quotes show you where the low end is.

When a one-trip 20 ft container is worth the extra cost

A new or one-trip 20 ft box is asked at about twice the price of a used one: ₹2,25,000 (4 sellers) against ₹1,20,000 (116 sellers), 20 October 2026. With so few sellers, read it as an order of magnitude. The extra buys a box with little wear:

  • An office, a shop, a café or a home, where the box is seen and lived in: little rust to treat and few dents to hide. Container shops and container cafés and container offices show what is built on a box like this; for more headroom inside, the one-trip 20 ft high cube is 305 mm taller.
  • Goods that must stay clean and dry, or a box you mean to keep for many years.
  • For plain storage on a site, a used 20 ft box does the same job for about half the price.

One-trip

Carried at most one load from the factory: straight panels, even paint, clean floor.

  • One voyage at most, usually from the factory in China to India, then emptied.
  • Straight panels and even factory paint, at most a few handling marks.
  • Clean plywood floor, soft door seals, locking bars that turn by hand.
  • CSC plate with a recent manufacture date.

Check before you pay: the manufacture date on the CSC plate, and photos of the actual unit.

A grade is the seller's word, not a certificate. Container grades explained

Colour and paint

A one-trip box comes in its factory paint, so the colour is a choice among the boxes a seller has in stock. Give the colour you want with its RAL code (RAL 5013 for the blue, RAL 6005 for the green) when you add the box to your quote: the seller confirms what is available.

The CSC plate and the manufacture date

The CSC plate on the door (the safety approval of the International Convention for Safe Containers) gives the month and year the box was built. It proves the age of the box, not its history: a recent date makes “one-trip” plausible. Ask for a photo of the plate and of the container number, and ask what the box carried and when it reached India.

Delivery and GST

Empty, the box weighs about 2,230 kg and comes off the truck by crane or side-lifter like any 20 ft box. Ask how the seller unloads, and look the box over for fresh scratches and dents before the truck leaves. Site preparation and unloading covers the ground and the access; for a box coming from another city, the delivered price estimate gives an order of magnitude on long trips.

GST on a container is 18% (HSN 8609). Ask whether the quote includes it and how it is charged: a GST-registered business can claim it back only on a full tax invoice in its name. More in GST on shipping containers.

Questions about the one-trip 20 ft container

Is a one-trip container new?

Almost: it was built new and has carried one load, usually from the factory, while a box that has carried nothing is new. Sellers use both words: ask which box you would get, and look for a recent manufacture date on the CSC plate.

What does a one-trip 20 ft container cost in India?

Sellers on IndiaMART ask a median of ₹2,25,000 (4 sellers, 20 October 2026); the one public listing with an exact price asked ₹2,45,000. With so few sellers, ask several for the same colour and the same delivery.

One-trip or used: which 20 ft container for an office?

For an office people work in every day, a one-trip box saves the rust treatment and the repainting a used box may need. A sound cargo-worthy box with a good floor costs about half and does the job once it is painted and lined. See container offices.
