40 feet high cube container, new / one-trip
12.19 × 2.44 × 2.90 m outside · 76.4 m³ inside · about 3,865 kg empty
The new or one-trip 40 ft high cube (40 HC, also listed as 40 HQ) is a 45G1 box with one voyage behind it at most: 2,698 mm (8′ 10″) of height inside, 12,032 × 2,351 mm of floor and 76.4 m³, with factory paint, straight panels and a clean floor. It suits a home, an office or a café, because little or nothing needs repairing before the fit-out starts. Few sellers price one in public: the partner sellers who have one quote it in the paint they hold, with delivery to your PIN code.

A one-trip 40 ft high cube, ready for the fit-out
On a used box, the first days of a conversion go into grinding rust, treating the floor and straightening panels. A one-trip high cube spares most of that: the work starts with the openings, the insulation and the wiring. Its 12,032 × 2,351 mm inside take a one-bedroom unit or an office with a meeting room, less the thickness of the lining on each wall.
- A home: container homes shows what fits, the container house cost guide what comes on top of the box, and permission to place a container what the local body asks for.
- An office or a café: see container offices and container cafés.
- If a finished look matters less, a used 40 ft high cube gives the same height for about ₹1,90,000; if height does not matter, a one-trip standard 40 ft has the same floor. New boxes of both kinds have few sellers: ask for both in one request and compare.
New high cubes are priced by few sellers: 3 listings from 2 sellers on IndiaMART asked ₹2,95,000, ₹3,00,000 and ₹3,65,000 (20 October 2026). One other listing, with an exact price, asks ₹5,75,000: ask each seller what the price includes before you compare.
One-trip
Carried at most one load from the factory: straight panels, even paint, clean floor.
- One voyage at most, usually from the factory in China to India, then emptied.
- Straight panels and even factory paint, at most a few handling marks.
- Clean plywood floor, soft door seals, locking bars that turn by hand.
- CSC plate with a recent manufacture date.
Check before you pay: the manufacture date on the CSC plate, and photos of the actual unit.

Height after the fit-out
The high cube gives 2,698 mm under the roof, 305 mm more than a standard box, and a door opening 2,585 mm high. A floor laid over the plywood one, roof insulation and a ceiling all come out of that height, and lights and a ceiling fan hang below it. As an example, if the floor and the insulated ceiling take 100 mm together, about 2,600 mm remain, against about 2,290 mm in a standard 40 ft box: plan the layers with your builder before you order.

Typical values (median of 10 data sheets published by CMA CGM, Evergreen, Hapag-Lloyd, Maersk, MSC, ONE and ZIM, 20 October 2026); feet and inches rounded to the nearest half inch. The markings on the doors give the tare and maximum gross weight of each box, the maximum gross also being on its CSC plate: a box rated higher carries more, its maximum gross weight minus its tare. Every size in feet, cm and mm: 40 HC container dimensions.
Delivery and lifting
Empty, the box weighs about 3,865 kg, which a mobile crane or a side-lifter handles at short reach: say in your request how it will come off, so that the delivered price includes the lift. On its trailer it stands 2,896 mm plus the deck, so look up along the route. As an estimate, not a quote, a box coming from Kochi port to Bengaluru (516 km) costs about ₹38,500 to ₹48,000 to truck; the delivered price estimate has other routes. Before the truck leaves, walk round the box: a new one should arrive without fresh dents.
GST at 18% (HSN 8609) applies to the full price of a new box: ask whether the quote includes it (GST on shipping containers).
